Weather Guide.

With six full months of temperatures in the twenties or higher, Lecce is about as good as it gets anywhere in Europe for warm weather. In fact, it can all get too much in July/August, and unless you have access to the beaches/air conditioning I strongly suggest you don’t book your holiday for this period (or come prepared for some serious heat).

A common misconception made is that winter in Lecce will be ‘better’ than in other places. Whilst the winter is mild compared to much of Europe, with the wind coming in off both coasts and days of high humidity; Lecce can feel extremely cold and be just as wintery as anywhere else. Therefore take that in mind and make sure you have your expectations in line before you book your holiday in February.

Wind is an important factor of life in Salento, especially in the summer. The fresh breezes of Tramontana or the hot gusts of Scirocco can either be a lifesaver or absolutely horrible depending on where you are when. There is a full guide on where to hang out (depending on the wind) here.

For sun-soaked holidays, generally, the end of May to early October is the summer season.
